This 100% Pink Bourbon coffee was grown by Luis Anibal Calderon at the Villa Betulia farm, where he lives with his wife and four sons, who assist him on the farm and are learning to cultivate these interesting varieties.

In a bid to keep his farm profitable, Luis Anibal started to plant specialty varieties in 2012, starting with 5000 Geisha trees. This approach paid off, and so he dedicated his farm to these interesting varieties; the farm is now planted with many specialty varieties including Geisha, Tabi, Java, Sidra, Striped Bourbon, Maragogype, Pacamara, Marageisha and several varieties of dwarf Geisha. In addition to coffee, Luis Anibal also cultivates plantains, bananas, cassavas and limes.

This particular lot was harvested following strict ripeness criteria, where they were floated and hand sorted to remove defects before being exposed to 30 hours of underwater fermentation and then pulped. The parchment was then washed, and dried in specific temperature controlled conditions to achieve the correct moisture content.

Luis Anibal puts a great deal of effort into his farming and harvesting techniques, becoming well known for his extremely high quality specialty coffees. We think you’ll taste the quality in the cup with this coffee!

About Pink Bourbon: Previously thought to be a hybrid of Yellow and Red Bourbon varieties, the Pink Bourbon was first found growing around the Huila region of Colombia (which is incidentally where Luis Anibal’s farm is). It has recently come to light that Pink Bourbon is likely derived from an Ethiopian landrace variety rather than a Bourbon. This makes it closely related to the Gesha, a popular and highly regarded variety - both varieties are of extremely high quality, along with having a higher resistance to disease than the Bourbons they grow alongside due to their genetics as Ethiopian landrace varieties.
