An Introduction to Better Coffee

An Introduction to Better Coffee

Better Coffee

Many of our regular customers at our brew bar will have noticed some changes throughout the year so far, and we are working on many more in the background! Our small team has had lots of conversations about our focus and goals for both the roastery and espresso bar, and we're in the process of moving towards more sustainable practices that have a positive impact on people and the planet.

Embassy has always been about sharing our love of better coffee with our community, and as we move forward we want to share with you our journey towards truly "better coffee" - not only the coffee itself, but better practices for the people throughout the whole supply chain, better choices for the planet, and generally making better business decisions across our whole operation.

We've begun a deep dive into what we are doing in various aspects of the business, researching how we can improve, implementing changes (on a small scale to begin with, but watch this space!) and holding ourselves accountable. It's no small feat but it's a worthwhile journey to embark on, and one we feel is our duty to pursue, to operate a responsible business. We're in this for the long haul, and there is no end-goal; improvement will be continuous.

With that said, we will be starting to share more of our journey on our Instagram accounts; @coffeeembassy_nz and the reinstated and newly renamed @coffeeembassycellardoor. We are also starting up this journal to provide more long-form content around our journey towards Better Coffee.

A2 Milk

One of our more recent changes we’ve made to our Cellar door which we have implemented over the past couple of weeks is making the switch to A2 milk from Canterbury’s Choice. We find it complements our Embassy blend brilliantly, bringing extra sweetness and a creamier, silky mouthfeel to milk based drinks. An added bonus for anyone who’s lactose intolerant and had to give up milk, A2 milk is naturally low in lactose and safe to drink!

Produced on local farms, the milk is locally delivered by @canterburyschoice_ in 1L glass bottles which are cleaned, picked up and reused, and we’re collecting the small metal lids to be recycled too. We’re stoked with our decision to move to a delicious tasting, locally made milk option that offers a more circular option for packaging. For more information on A2 milk, head to Canterbury’s Choice.

With A2 milk sitting at a similar price point as our range of alternative milk, from September we will be slightly increasing the cost of our A2 milk beverages, and slightly lowering the cost of our alternative milk beverages, bringing all of our white coffee prices in line based on size, to keep things as fair and transparent as possible.

We'd like to thank all of our wonderful customers near and far who keep our weeks busy and interesting in our little corner of Christchurch Central, whether you're a regular at our cellar door, a home brewer who chooses our beans, or one of our wonderful wholesale partners. Your ongoing support means the world to us and we’re excited to continue bringing you better brews.
